She had not known the weight until she felt the freedom. --Nathaniel Hawthorne
When I asked for a message this morning, I was shown a picture of a weight, the old-fashioned metal kind that you put on a scale. When I asked for more details, it was clear that the message was about the burdens that we carry around with us. They are like a heavy weight on our shoulders that we often don't realize we are holding onto.
For example, there's the weight of unforgiveness that we carry around in our hearts. We've done it for so long, that we've gotten used to the burden, forgetting what it was like to feel balanced and free. This can be unforgiveness toward others or toward ourselves. It comes from a place of judgement.
Often the heart chakra can become out of balance when we hold onto feelings of guilt, shame, and self-judgement. It starts with us and how we feel about ourselves. If I feel guilty or shameful about something I have done in the past, I am judging myself. That's when the negative self-talk comes in.
When we are in judgement of ourselves, we project that energy outwards and start judging others, clouding our sense of compassion. Our hearts become heavy with the weight of negative energy.
When we experience self-love and self-compassion, we are in place of self-forgiveness. We can let go of what has been dragging us down, sometimes for years. And when we can open our hearts and forgive ourselves, we make it possible to forgive others, thus letting go of the heavy burdens we've been carrying with us.
