Sometimes, it seems to me that there are stoplights in our life. We're all gung ho about something and steaming straight ahead to our destination, and then all of a sudden, we hit a red light, and we are forced to stop -- sometimes with screeching brakes.

And there we are, annoyed that we have to wait at the light. We may be impatient to get to where we are going. We can have a one-track mind, fixated on what we have to do and where we have to be. That's when it's good to take a moment at the traffic signal and breathe deeply. We know that stoplights are important for our safety, and that, without them, driving through intersections would be much more dangerous.

The same goes for when we are working toward a goal, and we're just pushing forward full-steam, perhaps not even paying attention to the messages we are getting to slow down, take a break, and just BE. Then, all of a sudden, out of the blue, the universe may bring us to an abrupt halt. Maybe something changes our plans or even cancels them. We've been stopped at an intersection in our life, and we sit there impatiently waiting for the light to turn green again. Maybe, though, this pause or block is there to keep us from some misfortune at that time. Perhaps we need to wait a bit before we move forward.

When the universe puts up a red light along our path, we might take a moment to breathe and be grateful for this forced respite.
