In today's meditation, I saw an image of myself parachuting in the sky. When I asked for clarification, I heard the word, 'Trust'. After deeper reflection and inquiry with my spirit guide, I came to understand the meaning of the message. Trust has been my parachute, catching me and cushioning my fall when things appear to be taking a turn for the worse.
I'm the kind of person who tends to live in the future, worrying about what might and might not happen. As I have developed on my spiritual path, I have been able to recognize when I am feeling anxious about the future, and I have been able to bring myself back into the present moment through my connection to trust.
When I have faith that the universe is supporting me for my highest good and the most benevolent outcome, I can let go of the need to control things in my life that are not and never have been mine to control. This isn't always an easy thing to do, especially if we are in the middle of a scary situation.
For example, during last year's volcanic eruption, we had to evacuate our newly-built house because the lava was getting very close. Skip and I had never experienced a lava eruption before, and might even have found it fascinating had we not been so up close and personally involved. When we left our home, we had to say good-bye to it because we were pretty sure we'd never see it again.
As we moved from one place to another, leading the life of evacuees, we could have easily fallen into despair, fear, and self-pity. But, when those thoughts came up, we switched to trust. We had an innate faith that the universe (higher power) was supporting us, and that all would be well, even if the lava did take our house.
As it turned out, our house was spared, and after major clean-up and repairs, we were able to move back in. We even received financial support from our insurance company to help with all the renovation.
